Progress Overview
After this week, we are still in search of a client. We initially reached out to 13 potential clients. Seven were unavailable to work with us due to prior commitment to other groups or because they did not have a project for this year. We did not receive responses from two potential clients. The remaining four responded with project ideas and offered to meet to discuss these ideas further. After meeting with all four, we focused our interests on the following two projects:

After this week, we are still in search of a client. We initially reached out to 13 potential clients. Seven were unavailable to work with us due to prior commitment to other groups or because they did not have a project for this year. We did not receive responses from two potential clients. The remaining four responded with project ideas and offered to meet to discuss these ideas further. After meeting with all four, we focused our interests on the following two projects:
- Simple Braille Display for Suzanne Erb
- Home Spirometry Device for Paul Commean
- Project 1: “Grid Walk”. Measure the frequency of missteps by a mouse on a wire grid and use it as an indicator for stroke recovery. Potentially developing a device to automatically detect missteps and trim video measurement. This would reduce measurements to a fraction of the time.
- Client: Zach Rosenthal
- Project 2: Assay for measuring whisker function in a mouse affected by a stroke.
- Client: Zach Rosenthal
- Project 3: Easier vein detection during IV access, especially for neonates and deep veins.
- Client: TBD
- We are currently communicating with Dr. Anastasio and Dr. Zhu concerning this project and whether or not it is feasible / original.
- Project 4: Magnetic guidance for placement and confirmation of Dobhoff tubes in hopes of minimizing the amount of radiation the patient would typically receive to confirm correct placement.
- Client: TBD
- We are currently communicating with Dr. Barbour concerning this project and whether or not it is feasible / original.
Tasks To Do
- Receive confirmation from Professor Klaesner that the two potential projects proposed by Zach Rosenthal would be appropriate for a successful senior design project.
- If they are appropriate, then begin project scope research.
- Look into who could be potential clients for Project 3 and Project 4, such as neonatal nurses for Project 3 or ER providers for Project 4.
- Research more potential clients to reach out to, such as BME affiliated faculty members.
